President's address
On behalf of Slovenian Association of Logopedists it is
my great pleasure and honour to invite you to the 7th CPLOL congress,
which will be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia in May 2009.
We extend a very warm welcome to a congress of highest scientific
quality, which will give us a chance to share experiences of important
every day questions in speech and language therapy, its research,
clinical practice and education of new generation. Collaboration of
different countries on these issues has become very important as well
as interesting from the professional point of view.
Slovenia is a small country but, being at the hub of traffic routes
from east to west and north to south, it has always played larger role
in European events, than its size would suggest. The Mediterranean
coast of Primorska, Alpine resorts of Gorenjska, lovely hills and
primeval forests of Dolenjska, vineyards of Goriška Brda and the far –
reaching plains of Prekmurje are just some examples of regional
diversity one can encounter here. All these and other regions of
Slovenia are accessible from Ljubljana within two hours of driving and
it offers excellent opportunity to explore on your own the incredible
variety of Slovenia scenery and national heritage.
Ljubljana has a picturesque historical part, composed of an
architectural heritage spanning from Roman Emona to modern Ljubljana,
which is also a university city. The roots of University go back to
the seventeenth century with Academia Operosurum, the fourth oldest
Academy of Sciences in Europe. And Ljubljana’s congress tradition
began in 1821, when the three emperors of Holy Alliance met here to
discus the post Napoleonic fate of Europe. These traditions have been
brought together in the Cultural and Congress Centre Cankarjev dom,
which will be the venue of our meeting.
We are pleased to host this congress and we will make every effort to
make 7th CPLOL congress a memorable event. Together we will all face
new challenges imposed by sharing good clinical practice in Europe.
I look forward to greeting you in Ljubljana
Nada Žemva
