Each year, the ESSD runs a survey on oropharyngeal dysphagia diagnosis for World Swallowing Day, 12 December. Swallowing disorders have a very high incidence in frail population, in stroke and in chronic respiratory diseases, and often complicate with malnutrition and pneumonia, information is available at the website: www.worldswallowingday.org. The purpose of World Swallowing Day is to have a worldwide awareness campaign, directed at health care professionals as well as the public, to increase knowledge about normal swallowing and swallowing disorders, their causes, early detection, complications and management. The European Society for Swallowing Disorders, ESSD, participates in World Swallowing Day by conducting a short survey to collect data on dysphagia diagnosis during the week around World Swallowing Day (this year from Monday 10 to Friday 15 December, 2018) The survey will be available at the website www.worldswallowingday.org. The ESSD will be very happy if you can join the project and fill out the survey with the details of the patients you have screened or diagnosed during the week 10-15 December 2018. If you don’t know how to screen oropharyngeal dysphagia, you can use the water test or the VVST for example. The survey is available in 9 languages: English, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, 日本語 (Japanese), Polski (Polish), Farsi, and Arabic. The results of this WSD will be available on the ESSD website in January, and we hope that 2019 will be the “oropharyngeal dysphagia year. |
